From the 1950 to Today.
La Villa was build in the 60’s. The idea came from a young couple from the north of Italy which spent their honeymoon in Positano during the 50’s.
The colors, the perfumes, the flavours and the friendly attitude of the people were so overwhelming for the young entrepreneur that he felt the irresistible desire to go back to those places.
The opportunity to realise his dream became true in the mid 60’s. A big piece of land for sale got the couple’s attention. The view on Li Galli island, Capri as a background, the location and the direct sea access prevailed on the young wife’s fear of feeling isolated.
Slowly but steadily La Villa begun to take shape. It was conceived with large spaces to host friends and family. The days passed under the shining sun of Positano and refreshing baths; the evenings were spent in the charming light of the sunset between a glass of Champagne and some Parmigiano cheese (loved by the owner, who was from Pavia).
Positano has always been regarded as one of the most exclusive summer destinations alongside with Capri. From the terrace looking towards Positano it was impossible not to notice the house of the film director Franco Zeffirelli. Those places witnessed the troubled romance of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Other major celebreties as Liza Minelli were always present, Leonard Bernstein took inspiration for some of his famous composition there. The famous dancer and choreographer Rudol’f Nureyev, owner of the island Li Galli was also one the guest of the Maestro Zeffirelli.
Friends were the usual guests, especially for the typical sunset drinks. Wether it was under the patio, in one of the many gardens or on the terrace, happiness and simplicity never lacked.
Nowadays La Villa has passed to the heirs, it has kept its traditional charm: several terraces and gardens from which you can admire the unique scenery of the Amalfi Coast, better enjoyed during breakfast with a tasty espresso. The most curious of you can gaze the sea in search of a small ripple indicating the presence of dolphins or, between August and October, for schools of tunas.
